Welcome

This document entitled, The NeXt generation of Clancy’s, is a continuation of the work by Eric Clancy, in his writing of the Overflow of Clancy. In essence the Family tree of the Clancy’s since the arrival in Australia of Thomas and Anne Clancy with their children in 1836.

For those directly descendent of Thomas and Anne the book offers a fascinating insight into the lives of our parents and their parents and their parents again. I am a son of Joan Clancy, I am one of eleven children, I am also a numbered with the some two thousand people that I understand born into the fifth generation of Clancy’s in Australia. I would guess by now there are sixth and seventh generations born who can directly link themselves to the Clancy’s.

This document is for allow the story to continue. I hope that people will feel comfortable in making a contribution by writing in the missing pieces. Listing not only their names but also something about their lives and the place they live, or places they have lived.

Direct Descendants Of Thomas & Ann Clancy

March 31st, 2008

Hi my name is Kirstin Ruth Jones. My 10 month old son is a descendant of Thomas & Ann Clancy as follows:

My son Rocksen Jack Lloyd Clancy (born Darwin NT 2007) is the son of
Chad Andrew Clancy (born Gosford NSW 1971) who is the son of
Leon Robert Clancy (born Geelong VIC 1937) who is the son of
Thomas Joseph Clancy (born Gladstone QLD 1896, died Melbourne Vic 1966) who was the son of
Richard Patrick Clancy (born Melbourne VIC 1842, died Brisbane QLD 1922) who was the son of
Thomas & Ann Clancy.

Pretty impressive direct line hey! I have to check with Leon Clancy that ive got this 100% right but im confident enough to post it. Obviously there are other children and mothers/wives in this link to acknowledge but i was more concentrating on directly linking my son through the Clancy men.

Clancy of Castletownroche

January 15th, 2008

Hi there. I came across this site by accident when researching information on the Irish in Geelong. I can trace my Clancy (sometimes spelt Clancey)heritage back to Castletownroche. My ancestor in Castletownroche was one
Thomas Clancy b. c 1802-1807 who married Mary Ellen McGrath b. c.1800-1801. They married in London, and Thomas’s brothers Patrick b. c. 1792-1796, and John b. c. 1790-1803, also emigrated to London. In Ireland the Clancy’s lived in a house called The Close, about half a mile west of Castletownroche. After Thomas emigrated to England a John Clancy was still living in the house. Thomas’s father was also named Thomas. John was still living in The Close in 1839 but soon after was evicted (probably due to the famine). By 1893 a Mr. James Hickey was living in the house but I don’t know who had it in the meantime. Thomas and Mary Ellen produced 8 children in London, one being my g.g. grandfather Patrick Clancy, b. 30.03.1839. He and wife Mary Deverick produced 7 children, one being my
g.grandfather Thomas Terrance b. 18.07.1861 and Married to Alice Anne Mason. They in turn had a further four children, one being my grandmother Alice Ethel Clancy. She and her sister having married, and the two sons not
having had any children, the Clancy name dies out in my line at that point.

I have not yet had a chance to read the book which inspired this blog, though
will make a point of doing so within the near future.

Rosemary Jones

Clancy Septs

November 18th, 2007

I am writing from Ireland and am a Clancy by the grace of God! I thought I might give some information on the septs of Clancys. I did some research some time ago and found that there are two septs, one comes from the barony of Corcomroe (Cahermaclancy) in Clare and were brehons (hereditary judges) to the O’Brien chieftains. A lot of this sept seem to have spread out to bordering southern counties like Limerick, Cork and Tipperary, two Clancy brothers fought in the Siege of Limerick! Another sept derives from Leitrim (west of Ireland). From what I could gather these two septs are not related…

Interesting to see the mention of Charles Fitzwilliam as he was related to my wife and did not know of the information so contained in the book.

The Clancy surname is unusual in England. I am the son of Anthony Hugh Clancy and the grandson of Sidney Clancy originally from the Limerick area of Ireland. Our history then becomes vague. I am always interested in the Clancy clan.
